Meet the Couple

Adrianna

Lucas

Adrianna grew up in Binghamton, New York, with small-town roots and big-city ambitions. After college at the University at Albany and an internship in Washington, D.C., she eventually made the capital region home. Outgoing, warm, and famously incapable of meeting a stranger, Adrianna can turn an elevator ride into a conversation with a new friend. She loves fashion, makeup, skincare, exploring D.C., and a good movie, but is equally happy on the couch with her Kindle and an iced coffee. Her kindness runs deep, as does her determination, a combination that carried her through law school with honors and continues to shape the way she approaches everything she cares about.
Lucas grew up in the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio, and brought a healthy dose of Midwestern hospitality with him to D.C. He tends to be quiet at first and prefers a small circle, but once he opens up, a sharp mind and wicked sense of humor quickly emerge. Patient and steady by nature, Lucas is happiest spending a fall Saturday watching Ohio State football or unwinding with a movie, a good TV series, or a computer game. He is proud of the path he has built through persistence and independence, and strives to be the calm, dependable presence the people he loves can always count on.

A Familiar Face

Adrianna and Lucas first met by chance during law school at WMU Cooley in Lansing, Michigan, when they happened to sit at the same table at orientation. It was a brief encounter, but apparently memorable enough. On the first day of Criminal Law, Adrianna walked into class, spotted a familiar and friendly face, and took the seat next to Lucas.

There were no romantic intentions that day. They simply became friends, then study partners, and before long, very close friends. There was never one dramatic moment when friendship suddenly became something more. Instead, the relationship grew naturally from the bond they had already built, until somewhere along the way they realized they had become much more than study partners.

Sunshine Over Snow

Their first major adventure together came before they had even finished law school. When the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly ended their normal campus experience, they had an opportunity to continue their studies through the school's Tampa campus. Faced with a choice between Michigan winters and Florida sunshine, the decision was not especially difficult.

They moved to Florida together and spent the next three years near Siesta Key, building a life beyond law school. When a hurricane severely damaged their apartment, another unexpected change sent them north again, this time to Arlington, Virginia.

Arlington became home. They built careers, found themselves working side by side again, this time in the same legal department, and recently moved into a new home together.

A Change of Plans

When Lucas planned the proposal, he pictured the rooftop of their building with the Washington, D.C. skyline behind them. Adrianna knew a proposal was coming, but the plan itself had one significant opponent: the weather.

Heavy snow and wind made the rooftop idea considerably less romantic in practice than it had been in Lucas's head. So the plan moved indoors, where Lucas proposed beside the fireplace in their building's rooftop lounge. It wasn't the skyline backdrop he had imagined, but after years of navigating unexpected changes together, adapting the plan felt strangely appropriate.

The Next Chapter

After nearly six years together, Adrianna and Lucas have already been classmates, study partners, best friends, partners, roommates, coworkers, and each other's constant through more than a few unexpected turns.

July 10, 2027 isn't about beginning a life together. It's about celebrating the life they've already built and choosing to keep building it, side by side.
